Populous unveils new Tottenham Hotspurs mega-stadium in United Kingdom

AS first revealed earlier, the 61,000-capacity mega-venue at White Hart Lane will feature a retractable natural turf football pitch, which will slide out to reveal an NFL-compliant surface.

The latest plans, due to be submitted to Haringey Council in the coming weeks, also feature the largest single-tier stand in the UK – a huge17,000-seat structure.

Spurs’ revised proposals, online betting officially named the Northumberland Development Project, have emerged just days after Premier League rivals Chelsea began consultation on their own redevelopment proposals drawn up by Herzog & de Meuron.

Populous’ senior principal Christopher Lee said the concept marked ‘a new generation of stadia design’, football tactics and formations which provides ‘an unparallelled experience for all fans’ and not just those in the corporate boxes.

He added: ‘The seating bowl is designed to create an intimate relationship between player and spectator, its 17,000-capacity single-tier end stand, a tribute to traditional English football grounds … virtual football league cheats will be the engine that drives the intensity and atmosphere in the new Spurs stadium. It will be like no other.’

The ‘visually dramatic’ new stadium is expected to open in August 2018 in time for the 2018/19 season.
