Rivers, NPA seal deal on road rehabilitation


nigerian roadIN display of commitment to boost economic activities within its territory, the Rivers State Government has signed pact with the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) to fix the deplorable industry access road that leads to the NPA Wharf, Port Harcourt.

At a brief ceremony, where the State Governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NPA and Zerock Construction Company, Wike said the initiative would improve the economic activities in the state, regretting that the deplorable state of the road had affected the economy of the State greatly.

Wike, who immediately after the signing of the agreement moved to the project site for its official flag off, announced that the road would be completed in three months time.

The Governor said, the people are inpatient to witness changes’ considering  poor road networks across the state.
He decried the deplorable condition of the road saying, “ this is no more road, it has completely collapsed, it is unfortunate that such road leads to the sea port”

“Industry road has been in a very deplorable condition for years now and that has affected the activity of the seaports, I believe that what we have come to do that would open up the economy activities within the seaports.

While charging the contractor handling the project, Zerock Construction Company to do quality job that would last long, the Governor revealed that the State Government was ready with the money to execute the project.  The money for the project was divided into two parts between the state government and Nigeria Ports Authority.

Meanwhile, NPA’s Managing Director, represented its General Manager, Eastern Zone, Obumneme Onuenyenwa lauded the Governor’s interest to fixing the road, describing it as a bold initiative.

Obumneme expressed the company’s readiness to deliver its part of agreement with the State Government to improve the economy activities in the state.
