In a major stride towards economic diversification, the Akwa Ibom State Government has flagged off construction of the ambitious 18-storey Ibom Towers project in Victoria Island, Lagos, with a completion timeline of 24 months.
The project, officially launched on Wednesday by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, marks a significant partnership between Akwa Ibom and Lagos, drawing support from dignitaries including former Akwa Ibom Governors Udom Emmanuel and Obong Victor Attah.

Governor Umo Eno highlighted the project’s potential to generate revenue, create jobs, and boost the GDP for both Akwa Ibom and Lagos.
“Leaders must look to the future, and the Ibom Towers project exemplifies a unified vision for economic resilience in these challenging times,” Eno remarked, adding that the collaboration reflects the strength of bipartisan efforts. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his longstanding contributions to Lagos’ development and urged Nigerians to remain patient through the current reforms.
The Ibom Towers, set to become an iconic addition to Victoria Island’s skyline, aims to strengthen investment and economic ties between the two states. Governor Sanwo-Olu welcomed the project as part of Lagos’ continued role as Nigeria’s commercial capital, noting, “This relationship is poised for growth, and maybe one day, I might invest in Akwa Ibom myself.”

Traditional and political leaders from both states voiced strong support for the development. The Oba of Oniru, Oba Abdulwasiu Lawal, pledged his backing, seeing the project as a legacy of cooperation. His Eminence, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk, President General of the Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council, praised the initiative and encouraged the involvement of young Akwa Ibom engineers for hands-on experience.
Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, expressed legislative support, underscoring that the project boosts Akwa Ibom’s national profile. Former Governor Obong Victor Attah hailed the project as the fruition of a longstanding vision, saying, “Ibom Towers embodies our aspiration for economic prosperity.”
Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, acknowledged the leadership’s efforts, praising Governor Eno’s commitment to expanding on the state’s legacy achievements.
