UNABLE to take possession of their homes, more than 15 months after they subscribed and won their flats under the Lagos State government’s housing programme – LagosHoms in Mushin area, the allottees are calling on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to intervene in their plight.

In a letter dated November 30, 2015, a copy of which was acknowledged by the office of the Governor, the allottees, under the aegis, Winners of LagosHoms, Mushin Scheme, stated that they were tired of promises, lamenting that many of them had disengaged from their current landlords, with the hope that September 30, 2015, promised by the officials would materialize.

The Letter titled: “Passionate Letter of Appeal – Urgent Intervention in the Completion of Lagoshoms Mushin Scheme”, urged Ambode to intervene in the completion and delivery of the Mushin phase of the scheme, adding that the completion of the scheme has dragged on for over a year, since August 2014, without definite resolution at sight.

“For your information Sir, there are just five buildings (60 flats) within the Mushin scheme and the draws were held between August 2014 and April 2015, when we were declared winners.

“Consequently, we were notified and requested to pay 30per cent equity contribution before allocation could be made and we complied. As at the time of writing this letter, the buildings are fully completed except for few items on the exterior (interlocking of the car park, connecting the estate to electricity and water”, they claimed.

The Guardian investigations revealed that the first completion date for Mushin Scheme by the management of Lagos Homs was March 31, 2015, upon which winners gave notices to their current respective landlords that they will be terminating their tenancy agreement.

However, March completion date could not materialise and since then, different stories and excuses have been offered by the management of Lagos Homs, with series of emails sending to the allottees, without any assurance of a definite date for the completion of the project.

But in early September 2015, the former Permanent Secretary of Housing, Mr. Olatunji Odunlami, at a press briefing held at the LIBC office, Alausa accepted responsibility for the delay in completing the projects before December 2014, said change in government caused the delay.

According to him, three schemes, namely Mushin, Sangotedo and Igando would be completed before the end of 2015, but that the Mushin scheme would be completed by September 30, 2015.
