Organising-5

BY organising your living space, you make it user-friendly. It is one way to make the place look peaceful, not necessarily by acquiring the latest gadgets and decoration.

Organising creates a relaxing feeling walking around the home and being in control of things. The overall effect is that there is some sense of order and the place is pleasing to the eye.

Storage is at the centre of organising the home. It is the key in having a place for various items and arranging them in a manner that they are easily reached when needed. The best way to start this process is to go by some principles that border on taking a good look at the available space and things, to identify what needs to be attended to.

Some items that are useful in effective organisation of the home include boxes, bags, shelves and drawers. Interestingly, there are a great variety of these items in different materials and colours that functionality becomes not just their highpoint but the decorative appeal in fitting into the plans of a given space.

Boxes come in materials such as iron, plastic and paper. For example, there are colourful plastic boxes available now in the market for storing children’s materials. Choose the right type for sensitive items. For example, boxes made of paper are preferable to plastic when storing old and sensitive paper or fabric. Materials such as old fabric or paper may be sensitive to the acid that is in plastic and may be stored better in boxes made of fibreboard or paper.

Designating a box for a particular category of items will also make for convenience. Things such as wrapping paper, ribbon and tape should go in one box rather than throwing everything into one big box.

A flexible storage system, such as adjustable shelves, to provide for different storage needs will prove forward-looking. When you are buying new furniture as well as how it will look when it is arranged in the home, always think about the function as well as how it will look in the home. For example, when you buy any type of furniture like end tables, you can consider those that incorporate drawers to stowaway some things.
