Celebrities: Their Christmas, New Year, Plans And Aspirations

Christmas means so many things to many people. For some screen celebrities, it is an opportunity to spend time with loved ones and also to reflect on the outgoing year and to plan and look forward to a prosperous New Year. Unlike in the past when it will be a mix of work and pleasure for most of them, nearly all the screen celebrities who shared their thoughts on Christmas say it will be work free for them as they intend to also utilize the opportunity to show love to the less privileged. Some top screen celebrities share their Christmas moments and it was clear from their individual submission that the significance of the day was not lost on them.

Uche Jombo Rodriquez:

I spent Christmas with family. It is my son’s first Christmas with us and so it is so special for us. But I am sending the season’s love from my family to all readers of the Guardian and all my fans and friends all over the world. I can’t thank them enough for their continuous support. They have been so wonderful and supportive. I look forward to a great 2016. I have my directorial debut movies titled ‘Lost in Us’ and ‘Within these Walls’ all from Uche Jombo studios. Also there is an Open University movie project that I starred in called ‘I believe’ that will be released in the New Year.

Kanayo O. Kanayo, MFR:

I spent Christmas with family and will spend the New Year holiday with them too. But outside spending time with friends and family, it will be a time to reflect on the state of the nation. The nation is currently at cross roads as the polity is being re-engineered to create a more inclusive system that can benefit the common man and our children yet unborn. In the same vein, I want to encourage movie producers to be more creative in their story telling. They must do more to tell stories that are didactic and that depicts our national reality. We cannot be painting a picture of affluence when some of our children still go to bed hungry. It is also instructive that as we move into 2016, those of us who are privileged must not forget the less privileged we left behind. More importantly, as the new government grapples with fixing Nigeria, there is need for caution. This is so because at this point in the historical development of our country, there should be no political divide on the issues that affect the welfare of Nigerians.

Wole Ojo:

I spent my Christmas holidays with my friends. We had a couple of outings we had planned together—partying and hanging out. But as for the New Year, I am spending it with my family. So it will be at my family house all day for me. I plan to spend quality family time. I have no resolutions. I never set out to make resolutions. So, I am just going to go with the flow of life and just try to be better in all I do and to be a better person. As for projects, I have a lot in the pipeline and I will be working on personal projects in the New Year God willing.

Sylvya Oluchy:

I spent this Christmas like every other year with the people I love the most— my family. But for the New Year holiday, a few colleagues and I will be visiting an orphanage to spend quality time with the kids. That will be on December 31st. I also intend to attend some comedy shows on New Year day because I love to start and what better way to start the year than with laughter. As for 2016, I have a movie titled ‘The Love Trainer’ which should be in all cinemas on February 14th amongst other projects. I don’t make resolutions and even if I decide on one, it is not something I would like to share. But I have a personal plan to better myself. The message to my fans is for them to remember that they are special and so they must remain optimistic and smile always. They should remember that we have only one life to live.

Segun Arinze:

Firstly I give God all the praise for His grace and gift of life. The holidays was a retreat for me as I sneaked out somewhere quiet to plan for 2016. But it has been a year of mixed grill for me. I want to take off from the race block as fast as I can in 2016. I have series of entertainment and other projects to handle which also include grooming and managing some new acts. I am looking forward to a great 2016. . As for resolutions, I stopped making resolutions because we are humans and it cracks even before you resolve. So I set targets for work and myself hard at achieving them.

Doris Simeon:

I spent Christmas with my family here in Lagos and I will be here too for the New Year holiday. For me, Christmas is a period to show love, share love and be loved and appreciated. As for my plans and projects, I have a busy 2016. I have a television show and my NGO project on child poverty eradication is one thing I want to really concentrate on and work at actualizing in 2016. Besides, I have plans to work on my short film project to fight against malaria. I made a few resolutions last year and I fulfilled some of them like putting a smile on people’s faces which translated into my being one of the directors of feed a child Nigerian initiative. But I enter a New Year resolved to be a better me.

Funke Akindele:

I spent my Christmas holidays resting at home since I have been working all through the year. So it was a time to spend it with close friends and family. I also had time to cook some delicacies since cooking is one of my hobbies. I don’t make New Year resolutions but I simply enter into a New Year resolved to be a better person and 2016 is not left out. I want to be more dedicated to my career and also love myself more. As for projects, we shall continue work on Jenifa’s Diary and then we shall work on a new television series and a movie. We also intend to empower more young people through The Jenifa Foundation (TJF). The foundation is all about empowering young people and helping discover and develop their God given talents. So, those are our projects for 2016.
