Linda Osifo and Saheed Balogun star in new TV series, Breaking Out

Breaking Out, a new television series with the signature of one of the co-producers of the blockbuster comedy, Alakada Reloaded Bola Oba, is ready for launch. However, the formal launch of the series is to be preceded by an online campaign that encourages people to share how they made success in a saturated industry.

The online campaign has been tagged #BreakingOut and Oba said: “Winning stories will be winning cash prizes and other benefits.” The series is about a northern Nigerian girl from a prominent and affluent family in Kaduna, who has spent the last few years of her life in Canada. Determined to start a new life, she returns to Nigeria and stays back in Lagos, a decision that does not go down well with her family.

According to Oba: “The series shows the problems of a single woman trying to make it in Nigeria’s most populace city; from dealing with family, culture and beliefs to running a business and the all too familiar complications of relationships and love.” Starring some notable and upcoming talented actors, such as Linda Osifo, Saheed Balogun, Asabe Phillips, Salisu Gezawa, Deborah Nwaohiri and Salisu Danjuma, Oba, who is Chief Executive Officer of Film Service Media, disclosed that the new series has been created to reiterate the stories of many people all around us.

He stated: “One of the reasons why we created Breaking Out is to provide a top quality series for the African market that will entertain and become a standard for primetime television programmes in Nigeria. “The series is ready for launch, but we thought it necessary to allow people share their own Breaking Out stories with the world. “We want to make the series about them than about us. If you look around, you will see that our world is filled with many people who rose to successful heights, despite being in a dominated industry. “These are the stories we want to hear before the series go live on television.”

It’s Tripple Shindig For Accomplished Actor, Sola Fosudo
Readers of this page would recall that we mentioned here weeks back that notable actor and theatre scholar, Sola Fosodu, has been appointed a Professor of Theatre Arts by the Senate of the Lagos State University (LASU).

Well, here is some more good news about the accomplished actor, essayist, dramatist and scholar: Fosudo is 60, and to commemorate the feat and also mark the 10th anniversary of his Blessed Fruit Foundation for Widows and Orphans and official opening of the Blessed Fruit Orphanage, the Board of Trustees, management and staff of the Foundation he established to cater for widows and orphans, plans to celebrate the actor of vast credit in a big way.

The birthday shindig begins today, September 8, with a Thanksgiving Mass at the Archangels Catholic Church, Satellite Town, Lagos at 11am. Later at 3pm, friends, family and colleagues would converge on Terra Kulture on Tiamiyu Savage, Victoria Island to celebrate the thespian with a drama presentation, titled, ‘One Legend, Many Seasons’ by Femi Osofisan. Expected as Chairman at the play presentation, which is directed by Fosudo himself, is the Vice Chancellor of the LASU, Prof. Lanre Fagbohun, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
