DESPITE repeated assurances and pleas by governments at all levels of adequate security during and after the forthcoming polls, Nigerians especially in the North are relocating to their states of origin en masse. Some others who can afford the luxury are also relocating their families abroad.

Mostly affected are Southerners residing in some Northern parts of the country. Investigation reveals that in the last one week, there has been mass exodus of non-indigenes in some of the states across the country.

There is no doubt that the forthcoming polls have generated undue tension between the two divides of the country, (North and South) following the inflammatory and unguarded utterances of some politicians and their supporters.

The situation has remained unabated less than a month to the elections. The ongoing pro and anti-push for the polls shift is gradually assuming a dangerous dimension as it is pitching supporters of APC and PDP against each other.

Despite the assurances by INEC on its readiness for polls and support by National Council of State for the polls to hold, some groups are still kicking against it.

The situation is degenerating to blackmail, name-calling, allegations and counter-allegations between some Southerners and Northerners.

Not even appeals for ceasefire by some prominent Nigerians have doused the growing apprehension across the country. Many who are relocating prefer to be alive and see tomorrow than staying back in the face of uncertainties and become a victim of whatever the situation may turn into during and after the polls.
