Eko Atlantic Rotary Club installs 5th President, promotes cultural diversity

The installation of Sadananda Melanta as the fifth President of Rotary Club of Eko Atlantic highlighted the diversity, equity, and inclusion in Rotary International as Nigerians, Indians, Bangladeshis, and others graced the occasion.
The event, which was held onboard a boat cruise, witnessed a sail through Lagos waters and the Atlantic Ocean, with enchanting views, gentle breezes, music, delectable cuisine, and exquisite wines and food all being in the mix.
The event tagged: “Create Hope in the world,” also marked the inauguration of the club’s board for the 2023/2024 Rotary year, and served as a fundraising opportunity for various projects.
In his inaugural speech, Melanta restated Rotary’s commitment to the ideals of “service above self” and tireless dedication toward making the community a better place for all.
He noted that through compassion, generosity, and the selfless sharing of time, talents, and resources, remarkable feats could be accomplished in alleviating the needs of the underprivileged.
Melanta disclosed that the club has a target of raising over ₦140mi to support a range of projects, which include the establishment of a kidney dialysis centre, sponsorship of cataract eye surgery for 200 patients, provision of 200 hearing aids for the deaf, distribution of artificial limbs, donation of 50 wheelchairs, engagement in mental health campaigns and treatment, organisation of blood donation camps, and assistance in child patient heart operations in India, among others.
“As Rotarians, we must nurture hope where it is most needed, to reach out to the marginalised and vulnerable, and to lead the way in embodying the Rotary legacy of ‘Service Above Self.’
“Let us always remember that we are not merely giving from our abundance; we are giving of ourselves with renewed zeal. Together, we shall forge hope in the world, armed with the knowledge, skills, and resources at our disposal.”
On her part, District Governor Rotarian Ifeyinwa Ejezie, commended the Rotary Club of Eko for Atlantic for pioneering the tradition of hosting installation ceremonies on a cruising yacht.
