Nonye Ndukwe-Onuoha is a renowned Nigerian fashion stylist and style director of the brand Style Block. She moved to Lagos 14 years ago where she started her career as a radio producer/presenter at MetroFM. It was during her time at the radio station she picked up interest in fashion styling and has not looked back.

In a chit-chat with the super stylish Nonye, she touches on her love and passion for her craft, noting excitedly“fashion styling is my
happy place, I’ve had other careers but the connection with fashion is deep.”

On the issue of stylists having a straight-jacket style direction with individual clients, Nonye says “The temptation to replicate your
personal style on a client is always there but that’s the shortest cut to limiting yourself as a stylist. You don’t want people to stereotype your work, you must be versatile and hard to predict, that’s where the fun is.”

Having worked on production sets of top brands like Uber, Fidelity Bank, Coronation Merchant Bank etc. she shares her thoughts on the
growth and general acceptance of fashion styling in Nigeria“the industry is still very young but I honestly do not know how far we
will go. Stylists are grossly underpaid versus our counterparts in more developed countries. Here people are still struggling to see why
they should pay you to tell them what to wear.”

Speaking on the way forward to drive industry relevance Nonye says it is unfortunately up to fashion stylists to keep pushing and leverage
the support of key industry players like production directors.

She describes her style as classic with a hint of the street.
