Knockout, a comic movie by Wale Adenuga Production, has officially been released to the cinemas. Known for his inspiring television series, Super Story, Adenuga is bringing his expertise in the new comic thriller, which features 11 top Nollywood actors and some social media celebrities.

Directed by Patience Oghre, Knockout parades the likes of Chiwetalu Agu, Ngozi Nwosu, Jide Kosoko, Hafiz Oyetoro, Segun Arinze, Toyin Abraham, Patience Ozokwor (Mama G), and Odunlade Adekola. Others are iconic actress Sola Sobowale, Desmond Elliot, Ali Nuhu and others. The movie also features notable comedians, including Kenny Blaq, Charles Okocha, Woli Arole, Gbenga Adeyinka, and Klint Da Drunk.

The movie tells the story of comical occurrences that sent a group of people into frenzy after the news about a boxing competition with a cash prize of N1 billion ($3 Million) broke out. They devise mischievous means to participate in the competition, with firm eyes on the prize. Two friends dug the ground with the hope of having access to the vault of a bank but ended up in female police college, another chose to go diabolic and use charm on men to get the money but failed.

The ‘clumsy boxer’ they chose and the crazy characters they meet along the way sparked off the intrigues that characterise Knockout.

Speaking on the project, veteran filmmaker Wale Adenuga said, “We want to show the whole world that we are not only for TV production; now we are back to film and we are going to make it regular. We are ready to give them the best and to make them laugh than they ever laugh before,” he said.

On the inspiration behind the film, Adenuga explained, “I have a number of stories in our library and we will be bringing them out. We will be having up to three seasons of Knockout and we will be rolling them out annually; we can’t wait to see the second one,” he quipped.

In terms of marketing, Adenuga is confident that Knockout would experience a hitch free screening and distribution.

“For marketing, we are distributing beyond Nigeria; we are launching in Ghana this Easter and it will also be going outside Africa. As per marketing, we are in safe hand,” he assured.

On his choice for a star-studded cast, the talented filmmaker said, “Nigeria is richly blessed in terms of actors. We have actors in abundant actors in Nigeria, so, it’s one of our strategies; they all complement each other on set.”

Speaking on his boxer role in the movie, which is currently showing at the cinemas, Afeez Oyetoro otherwise known as Saka, said, “I tried my best, it is for the audience to judge. It was challenging because I have never played that kind of role before. I’m used to playing comic role; I don’t like violence and that role introduced me to violence. So, it’s challenging, but to the glory of God, I have good directors with a nice script. Besides, I worked with professional colleagues, who actually gave me their support. I think I can do more of this,” he boasted.

On moral lesson behind Knockout, Oyetoro said, “first, it’s entertaining. Secondly, no matter who you are, you don’t need to be fraudulent; you only need to work hard and success will be yours. Don’t defeat yourself before you go to war and try your best. Definitely, you are going to win,” he hinted.

Relating the movie to the Nigerian society, the lovable actor said, “There are so many things that should be knocked out of Nigeria; corruption, police brutality, political thuggery and so many vices. In the film, those, who tried to steal, were knockout and they found themselves in cell. Those who tried to be fraudulent did not succeed, but those, who work hard succeeded.”
