Canadian-based Nigerian rapper, Selick Idahosa professionally known as Sleek has recounted how hip hop elevated his musical career internationally.

The young versatile rapper made this known in a recent interview while sharing his musical journey and how he got Nigerian superstar on his debut single, he said: “My very first single ‘Problems’ is what made me and Ice prince connect and became friends, he loved my verse so much he decided to bless me with a crazy verse, we shot the video directed by Moe Musa in Lagos and caught the attention of BET AFRICA ‘Feel the vibe’. My very first single is what got me my huge buzz after my rebrand (used to go by Leaux). Every blog online picked it up and the biggest one of them at the time was Worldstar,  hip hop opened up doors for me internationally, it reached Nigeria and was played overall tv stations for weeks. It even reached MTV Paris for a couple of weeks. From there I decided to try South Africa, that’s when I released another successful single called ‘The Plug featuring DA LES, the single got me the opportunity to open up for United Kingdom radio personality, Tim Westwood at Taboo nightclub in Johannesburg”.

Born in Nigeria and raised in Toronto, Sleek is known for his well-composed manner and analytical outlook on life, he has been writing, recording and mixing music since he was 17.

The independent artist who draws inspiration from Asap Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, and Drake; however described his sound as Rap/hip hop with a bit of melody.

Sleek who is gearing up to take the Nigerian rap music space by storm in the coming months speaking on how he hopes to connect with his roots since he has been away for a while said “I already got a nice little fan base to start the fire, most of my views come from Lagos anyway. Canada does not have a music infrastructure like that which forces artists to go to America or back to their homeland if possible, also I am way happier when I am home because there is no place like the motherland, I am also good friends with Tundeednut, he showed me around Lagos back in 2016 and introduced me to Phyno, PSquare and many more that I can’t remember off the top of my head at the moment. I’m also cool with the producer Benjamz, video director Dir K and Mr Moe Musa, Iceprince and 2Kriss”, said Sleek.

On what to expect soon as he is working on several projects, the talented rapper in his words said “Fans should prepare for new energy that the industry has been missing and plenty of surprise collaborations since everyone is within arms reach”.
