There is no contention that football is the world’s most popular sport. Most people who play the game on a non-professional scale do so for the love of it and leisure. However, golf is a game for the elites because a golf club isn’t that cheap. That said, some elites who engage in it also do so to keep fit, mingle and belong to a social class.

But the perspective by James Akinwande, a lawyer and inventor based in the United Kingdom, as a passionate golfer is quite as unique as his life. Jane’s Akinwande had a background in sciences up to higher institution level and he is also an internationally acclaimed legal practitioner with 19 years experience in Legal Compliance, Business and Immigration Law

James Akinwande, who belongs to his own class in terms of academic profile and achievements, is the International Artist Manager for Kenny Blaq and Artist International Compliance Consultant for famous Nigerian celebrities such as AY, Brodda Shaggi, to mention a few.

Akinwande hails from Ondo Town in Ondo State and recently entered into the history books after he invented a new cooking device that has seen him been listed as one of the 50 Nigerian-born inventors, with his latest invention licensed by the UK intellectual Property Office.

His  innovation in cooking device which is set to revolutionise cooking in households, hotels, restaurants and pubs across the world, was conceived in 1999. In the face of adversity, setbacks and lack of fund to make progress on the discovery for 24 years, he stood the test, persevered, was determined and remained focused to see his innovation come to fruition, until it was licensed by the authorities in the UK.

One more striking thing about his extraordinary personality is that he is a seeker of knowledge. This began while he was still in Nigeria before relocating to the UK more than 28 years ago. He studied Electrical Electronics Engineering at Ondo State polytechnic, Owo, and later proceeded to the Federal University of Technology, Akure. He left for England in his third year, attended the University of East London; Birkbeck College; University of Westminster andis a proud product of the London Metropolitan University.

Speaking in an interview, James Akinwande explained that being an ardent player and follower of golf is a blessing to his life. He insinuated how virtues such as endurance, concentration; determination, temperance and pushing himself to achieve so much; all of which he imbibed in the game, played critical roles in his exploits.

Unlike a lot of successful people, James Akinwande involves God in his dealings. He pointed out that his contact with golf as a leisure sport for him, which he never forethought, was a divine instruction.

“Golf is a blessing. I heard the word golf one day when I was praying. I have a ritual of prayers every morning. I searched the golf courses around me becauseI was working as a legal caseworker around Dagenham as at that time”, he said.

“I called up Crowlands golf and was attached to Mr Ashley Lucas (PGA coach) From the first time I picked up a golf course till now; it has been a blessing fitness -wise and in so many other ways. Golf will test your endurance, concentration; determination; temperance and much more. You can’t be complacent with Golf and the only person you’ll compete with is usually yourself.. even though you might be playing with other golfers.

“Golf is an elite sport But at the same time, when you develop an interest in it, the associated cost won’t matter much whether you are rich or just comfortable. Golf is not for everyone but for those who play regularly; it’s quite addictive”, added James Akinwande.
