Kel-P bags first Grammy certificate

Renowned Nigerian music producer, Kelvin Peter Udoma, popularly known as Kel-P, has bagged his first Grammy certificate for his contribution to Angélique Kidjo’s Mother Nature studio album, which clinched the Best Global Music Album award at the Grammys earlier this month.

Renowned Nigerian music producer, Kelvin Peter Udoma, popularly known as Kel-P, has bagged his first Grammy certificate for his contribution to Angélique Kidjo’s Mother Nature studio album, which clinched the Best Global Music Album award at the Grammys earlier this month.

Despite this being his first win, his talent and hard work had previously earned him four Grammy nominations within the past three years. While he received his first nomination at the 62nd Grammy Award Ceremony for his work on African Giant album, his second nomination was for his contribution to Skip Marley’s ‘Higher Place’ 63rd Grammy Award Ceremony. This year, however, Kel-P was nominated for his contributions to Wizkid’s ‘Made In Lagos’ album and Angelique Kidjo’s ‘Mother Nature’ album which ultimately won him the Grammy.

Commenting on the feat, the award-winning music producer shared his excitement saying, “I am excited to be recognized for my outstanding achievement in the global music industry, it is no easy feat. I also want to appreciate Anjelique Kidjo for allowing me to work on her amazing body of work.

Throughout his childhood, Kel-P has had a peak interest in music. He however officially began composing beats and melodies in 2016. In 2017, he produced Eleganza, by Solidstar which went on to be his first major production and his introduction to the music industry.

Since coming into the spotlight, Kel-P has worked with major acts like Wizkid, Burna Boy, Skip Marley, and Future to name a few. He also boasts of a major publishing deal with Universal Music France which has been monumental in his career. Within the last year, Kel-P has been behind a lot of major releases and projects, from executively producing Seyi Shay’s ‘Big Girl’ Album, to having ‘Gbona’ which he produced to open the second season of Netflix’s Top Boy.
