THE major change noticed in the new appointments made by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara state is the choice of a woman as the new Head of Service in the state.

The woman, Hajia Zaratu Umar from the same Kwara North senatorial district as her predecessor, Alhaji Dabarako Mohammed remains the highest political office ever occupied by a woman in the modern political history of the state.

Her performances in office may serve as a gateway for more female appointments in the 48 year old state whose political landscape had over the years been dominated by activities of male politicians.

Other appointments as announced by Ahmed are; Alhaji Sola Gold, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Baba Ahmed, Chief of Staff Government House, Dr Femi Akorede – Senior Special Assistant (SSA) Media and Publicity, Alhaji Ibraheem Adeyemi – Senior Special Assistant (SSA) Government House, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba Chief Press Secretary (CPS) and Mr Segun Abifarin Special Assistant Domestic.

A source told The Guardian in Ilorin that the Governor citing a drastic shortfall in Federal Government monthly allocations to states may reduce the number of political appointments he will make.

Apart from the new Head of Service, other appointment made to replace the incumbent occupier was that of the Chief of Staff Government House. Baba Ahmed replaced Alhaji Toyin Sanusi, being touted as a likely choice for the post of Commissioner for Works, Roads, and Transport.
