We have been sitting home for over a month now and though the lockdown is almost over, it is not yet over and so there is still time for you to make your very own home-made natural facemask and get your face ready to resume normal activities.

Natural facemasks come highly recommended if you are looking for instant brighter skin as they reduce pore size, restore skin moisture, clear and brighten complexion, get rid of blackheads, acne, wrinkles and so on.

How do facemasks benefit the skin?
They replenish and moisturize your skin because the ingredients are able to sit on your skin for about 10 to 30 minutes. The nutrients and vitamins penetrate your skin, deep cleaning pores and remove the outermost layer of dead skin. Facial masks cleanse, tighten, exfoliate, soften, and brighten your skin.

If you don’t have ingredients (or the time) to whip up a homemade mask, an over-the-counter rinse-off or peel-off mask is okay, too. A rinse-off mask involves removal with a warm or cool cloth once the mask dries. Peel-off masks are gel-based for deep cleansing and exfoliating. You’ll apply the mask; wait for it to harden, and then peel it off. There’s also the option of a sheet mask. Rather than applying a cream or gel, you’ll place a facial sheet (containing nutrients and minerals) over your face.

Here are a few do’s and don’ts to maximize the effectiveness of a facial mask:
. When using facemasks, ensure your skin is totally clean before applying it and remember not to leave it on too long so it doesn’t suck the life out of your face. Leave the mask on for 10 to 30 minutes so the ingredients penetrate your skin. Apply a moisturizer after washing off the mask.
. Splash cold water on your face after removing the mask to close your pores. Don’t use a mask if you experience skin irritation or an allergic reaction.
. Don’t apply a mask every night, once a week is okay. Don’t scrub your skin when washing off the mask. This can cause irritation and redness.
Here are five masks you can make from natural ingredients that would give you amazing results.

Rhassoul Clay Mask
Moroccan red clay is simply amazing. It’s the best clay to use for getting rid of blackheads. With regular use, it would nourish, tone and re-balance dry and flaky skin.

Ingredients:
Rhassoul Clay, Colloidal Oatmeal, Lemon Peel Powder, Baobab Leaf Powder, Lemon Essential Oil, Lime Essential Oil, Orange Essential Oil.
. Wash your face first, then using a dry plastic spoon (do not use metal). Scoop about 1/4 of a teaspoon into the palm of your hand or a plastic bowl.
Add water to make a paste. You can make the paste as thick or as runny as you like. Apply to face in upward circular strokes and allow to dry on your face for 15 minutes. Rinse off with water and pat dry.
Sea Clay Detox Mask With Moringa
Sea Clay is excellent as a detoxifier for your skin, as it draws out impurities from your skin.  It deep cleanses and tightens the pores and this makes it great for oily and acne prone skin.
Ingredients: Sea Clay, Colloidal Oatmeal, Moringa Leaf Powder, Activated Charcoal,
Tea Tree Essential Oil.
. Wash your face first, then using a dry plastic spoon, scoop about 1/2 teaspoon into the palm of your hand or a plastic bowl. Add water to make a paste. You can make the paste as thick or as runny as you like. Apply to face in upward circular strokes and allow to dry on your face for 15mins. Rinse off with water and pat dry.

Bentonite Clay with Lavender and Chamomile
Bentonite clay is a very popular healing clay that also cleanses the body. Adding water to the clay gives it a negative electric charge, which in turn removes toxins from the body. It works both internally and topically to help detox and clarify. Chamomile is one ingredient you want to add to your beauty regimen. It has excellent healing abilities to repair skin, fight and block out irritants by eliminating free radicals, which damage your skin and accelerate the aging process. It is also a natural skin lightener, promotes a healthy glow of the skin as it heals and restores its natural moisture.
Ingredients: Bentonite Clay, Colloidal Oatmeal, Crushed Lavender Flowers, Crushed Chamomile Flowers, Lavender Essential Oil.
