The Doctors, CBS Studios production debuts in Nigeria

The Doctors, a medical show from CBS Studios International is set to launch in Nigeria, with the premiere episode airing on Africa Magic from February 2020.

Airing weekly, the series features a panel of real-life doctors, who bring the best of entertainment and health advice to television.

Vice President, International Formats for CBS Studios International, Roxanne Pompa, said the show will empower its viewers with insight and information and will serve as a public service for the broad and engaged audiences found across the African continent.

Speaking about the partnership, Channel Director for Africa Magic, Mrs. Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu said “we are always on the lookout for fresh and original African content. With the dual objective of entertaining and educating, I am confident that The Doctors will receive the same level of success its international counterpart gained in the United States.”

The show promises a lot of excitement and hope through stories that will make the audience laugh, cry and learn about their hygiene and health.

On his part, the Executive Producer and Host of The Doctors Nigeria, Dr. Dayo Osholowu, said the series would begin a cultural shift in the way Africans think about, talk about, and respond to the African health crisis.

He also acknowledged the tremendous support from Africa Magic team who worked to deliver a high-quality show that will drive change in healthcare across Nigeria and the rest of Africa.

Osholowu is a Nigeria Physician and Surgeon has a triple International Post Graduate Certification in Sports Medicine from the International Olympic Committee, Football Medicine and Emergency Mass Medicine from FIFA Football Medicine Center of Excellence and Aviation & Emergency Transport Medicine from the International Association of Air Medical Services. He currently serves as a Chief Flight Surgeon at Kasi Doctor Rescue Service based at the Lagos International Airport and currently serving as a Member of the FIFA Football Medicine Network in Africa.

He also has a private practice in Lagos as a Sports & Exercise Medicine Physician and is fully licensed by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

He said ‘The Doctors’ has been produced in over 100 countries and is produced by Stage 29 Productions and distributed by CBS Television Distribution. Jay McGraw, Carla Pennington, Patricia Ciano and Dr. Phil McGraw are executive producers, while CBS Studios International distributes the show internationally.

He said CBS Studios International is the leading supplier of programming to the international television marketplace, licensing to more than 200 markets in more than 60 languages across multiple media platforms. The division, according to him, distributes programming from CBS Television Studios created for the CBS Television Network, The CW, CBS All Access and other platforms, as well as content from CBS Television Distribution, Showtime Networks, CBS News, CBS Films and a library of more than 70,000 hours of programming.

“The Studio participates in a number of international channel ventures, including owning and operating Network 10 in Australia and also exports a diverse line-up of formats for local production. CBS Studios International has 13 offices around the world, including its base in Los Angeles and EMEA headquarters in Amsterdam.
