‘The foundation of my lyrics is from the Bible’

Samuel Emenike better known as Desam is an amazing gospel singer, songwriter and music promoter. At a tender age, Desam lost both of his parents and it wasn’t really easy for him growing up with his guardian, his grandmother, who was the one taking care of him and his siblings with her farm works. She made sure that she saw them through School. Aside music, Desam runs an online social media company called Visit Brand; a marketing company that offers affordable social media management to help businesses, independent music artistes to market their songs more effective online. Since he started singing professionally six years ago, he has three awards to his credit, Fast Rising artiste in Port Harcourt, SwagTV Gospel award in 2013 with more to come.

When did you discover your passion for music?
I discovered my passion for music in secondary school as a teenager, from there I was made the music director in scripture union and chapel prefect which gave me an edge to start leading devotion every morning before I left the secondary school. I chose to go into music because music is a soul to me and is life. I always sing what I feel and it’s one thing that gives me joy more than every other thing.

Describe your style of music?
My style of music is totally different from every other gospel artistes in the sense that the titles are controversial but when you listen to the lyrics, you will appreciate better and that is where the uniqueness comes from.

What’s your take on Nigerian gospel artistes?
We all know that there are lots of gospel artistes in Nigeria. Our country is surely blessed with very talented and hard-working people, who have managed to become popular and spread their songs to the world. Nigeria has one of the best music artiste in Africa and the world at large, there’s no part of the world that Nigerian gospel music has not travelled to, or has not been played, and it is everywhere. Those who knows the music business are on top of their games be it gospel or secular.

Your inspiration
My inspiration comes from God, life and nature, the Bible happens to be the foundation where I get my lyrics to write my songs.

Your role models in the music industry
My role models in the music industry are Timi Dakolo, Lemar, Ebiere, Lecrae, Mali Music, Deitrick Haddon, Eben, Frank Edwards and other great artistes.

Tell us about your new work?
I’m working on the video of my new song Awesome God which will be released in April . I’m also working on other great things to be unveiled later.”

Can you share most memorable moment on stage?
My most memorable moments on stage happened when we had the all star gospel night in Port Harcourt. I was opportune to be a blessing to others and to meet new top and fast rising gospel artist at the event.

Where do you see yourself five years from now?
Five years from now, I see myself solving problems for people through my music, business and life. I want to touch lives positively through my music.
