Budding music sensation, singer and songwriter, Olorunyomi Oloruntimilehin, professionally known as ‘Bad Boy Timz’, rose to prominence with the release of the song “MJ,” and a follow-up remix, which featured Nigerian singer Mayorkun.

He was featured in Olamide’s hit single, Loading, in the rapper’s Carpe Diem album and emerged as the Rookie of the Year at the Headies in 2020. A graduate of Bells University of Technology, Ogun State with a degree in Computer Engineering, Bad Boy Timz boasts a number of successful hit tracks to his name including, Move, Have Fun and Oasis.

According to him, he finds the inspiration for some of his songs by looking inward: “Sometimes, they are freestyles. Sometimes, I even write the lyrics of my songs without having instrumentals yet. There’s no formula to the way I make my music. It’s basically off my reality, or other people’s reality, social activities and awareness.”

He also revealed that he is currently working on the release of an album that would offer a throwback to some legendary afrobeat sounds from yesteryears: “Currently, I am working on a new album, and the goal is to remind people of some of the old afrobeat songs. I’ve seen that a lot of people are sampling international songs, but not the old afrobeat songs. That’s one of the things that I have been working on for my next album.”

The singer expressed his huge admiration for legendary actress, Funke Akindele, highlighting her role in his cameo on the Amazon Prime Mini-Series, She Must Be Obeyed. “She was one of the people that helped me during the issues with my label. She’s a really great person. On She Must Be Obeyed, other artistes of my set came there, and they didn’t even talk in the movie. She made sure that I acted in that movie, and that means a lot.”

Bad Boy Timz shed some light on his most recent release titled “Lotto”: “I felt the need to drop a love song, outside my project. I pitched a couple of songs. I actually re-recorded the Lotto Song. I had it before, but I re-recorded it in the UK. It is doing awesome.”

He had a word of advice for upcoming artistes looking to break into the industry: “You have to stand out. You need to be very different. Right now, there’s a lot of attention on Afrobeat. If you make Afrobeat differently, I feel like you can succeed.”
