Ehinoye Omoboye Leyimu, lawyer, was born on August 14, 1955 in Ondo City, Ondo State, Nigeria, into the family of the late Pa Ernest OlaleyeLeyimu. He died on July 17, 2025, at the age of 70 and was buried on Thursday, September 18, 2025. His parents, Pa Ernest O. Leyimu and Mama Beatrice Olanubi Leyimu, both of blessed memory, were esteemed figures in the Ondo Kingdom.
Ehinoye was the youngest of three brothers, alongside Dr. Omobolu Leyimu and Olatunbosun Leyimu. He completed his primary education at Ebenezer Primary School and Abadina Primary School in Ibadan. He then attended Ibadan Grammar School for his secondary education from 1967 to 1971 before finishing his Advanced Levels at the International School in Ibadan. He went on to earn a Barrister at Law (BL) and a Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of Lagos, being called to the Bar in 1977 at the youthful age of 22.
His legal career commenced at Akinjide & Co, after which he became the General Counsel for The Guardian Newspaper. After 15 years in practice, he transitioned to private practice to enhance his legal expertise, eventually establishing his firm in Lagos and later in Ibadan. He focused on retainership agreements with notable organisations, including Spectrum Publishers, Globacom, and Binatone Nigeria, among others.
Beyond his legal pursuits, Leyimu was politically active. His exceptional people skills facilitated his brief foray into politics, where he was elected as a representative for the Shomolu Local Council in Lagos.
An avid golfer and exercise enthusiast, he also enjoyed jogging, walking, and biking.
His spiritual journey began in the Anglican Church, where he was an active member of the Young Men Christian Association (YMCA). In 1998, he dedicated his life to Christ by joining the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). A devoted husband to Pastor Mrs. Olanike Leyimu, he significantly supported her ministry and excelled as a Sunday School teacher, later joining the church’s Elders.
Leyimu made a lasting impact through pro bono legal counsel to private organisations, churches, and humanitarian ministries, as well as mentoring junior lawyers. His deep love for children and commitment to their development was evident throughout his life.
Known for his warmth and compassion, he was open, direct, quick-witted, and jovial, brightening any gathering he attended. He was a reliable and generous friend, cherished by many.
Above all, Leyimu cherished family. He was a devoted husband and loving father, spending 40 years with his beloved wife, Olanike Leyimu (née Adebiyi). Together, they were blessed with two sons, Eniola and Sijuwola, a daughter in law, Kasara and two grandchildren, Ekundayo and Oluwalonimi.
