Olojo Festival: A celebration of rich Ile-Ife cultural heritage

Leading Information and Communication Technology firm, MTN Nigeria has joined the Ooni (Traditional ruler) of Ife, HRM Adeyemi Enitan Ogunwusi and indigenes of the community in celebrating the 2018 edition of the Olojo Festival.

The Olojo Festival is a cultural event in the calendar of Ile-Ife, Osun State, celebrating the remembrance of ‘Ogun,’ god of Iron, who is believed to be the first son of Oduduwa, progenitor of the Yoruba people.

The festival has remained popular in Ile-Ife because of its myths and history. For some, it connotes the day in the year specially blessed by Olodumare, while for others it could simply be an opportunity to travel and spend time with family far and near.

Because of this, MTN Nigeria has joined in the celebration as part of its effort to promote the rich cultural heritage found throughout the Nigerian landscape under a bigger initiative – KultureFest.

The initiative is borne out of the desire to preserve and project the country as one with a rich cultural heritage, hereby putting various cultural festivals in the country on the international pedestal also galvanising their potential to generate revenue for the communities bonding.

On KultureFest, Sales and Distribution Executive of MTN Nigeria, Adekunle Adebiyi had this to say “At MTN we are passionate about the Nigerian culture and heritage. As a result of this, we joined in the Olojo celebration as part of our effort to promote the rich cultural heritage found throughout the Nigerian landscape under a bigger initiative –  KultureFest.”

MTN Nigeria, through the KultureFest initiative, has evolved into a strong pillar behind major festivals such as Osun Osogbo, Ofala Nnewi, and many more across the country, committing to uplifting these festivals to an international tourist standard. The ICT company has also given arts and culture in Nigeria a rather elaborate platform on which to ride on, sponsoring initiatives like Saro the musical, Wakaa the musical, Fela and The Kalakuta Queens stage play, the Eko Theatre Carnival and many more.
