Africa Celebrates 2024, the largest Pan-African event of the year, unfolded with grandeur and purpose in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from November 6 to 10. Bringing together delegates from 41 African nations and 13 diaspora countries, the event seamlessly blended business, culture, and innovation into a powerful showcase of the continent’s potential. Over five vibrant days, attendees immersed themselves in discussions, exhibitions, and performances that highlighted Africa’s unity, diversity, and aspirations.

The journey began with the arrival of delegates, many flying in aboard Ethiopian Airlines, the official airline partner. Welcomed at Bole International Airport by the efficient Africa Celebrates Protocol Team, led by Tesfaye Gebremichael, guests were whisked away to the luxurious Skylight Hotel, setting the tone for an event of impeccable organization and hospitality. Addis Ababa buzzed with excitement as the city prepared for a celebration that would resonate far beyond its borders.

The official opening ceremony which marks the first day took place on November 6 at the iconic Africa Hall within the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) complex. Distinguished speakers graced the podium. The event started with opening remarks delivered by Her Excellency, Ambassador Minata Samate Cessouma, Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development of the African Union Commission, who was well represented by Dr. Abel Basutu. Other remarks were made Amb Willy Nyamitwe, Ambassador of Burundi to Ethiopia, Mikael Cleverly, Charge d’ Affair of the US Delegation to the African Union, Her Excellency, Selamawit Kassa, Minister of Tourism of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, His Excellency, Pedro Leon Cortes Ruiz, Colombia Ambassador to Kenya who represented the Vice President of Colombia and His Excellency, Amb Mohammed Arrouchi, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the African Union, represented by Saad EL Qamcaoui.

The day continued with the launch of the “Made in Africa Exhibition,” inaugurated by Minister Kassa. The exhibition, a vibrant display of African ingenuity, featured products from across the continent, fostering new business connections and partnerships. Concurrently, forums tackled pressing issues: the “Africa Talks Business and Investment Forum” explored strategies to invigorate African economies, the “African Traditional Leaders Forum” convened to address conflict resolution and peacebuilding, and the “African Fashion Business Summit” delved into the nexus of fashion, culture, and commerce.

On November 7, the second day of the event, Africa Celebrates underscored its commitment to inclusivity with a focus on the “Down Syndrome and Intellectual Disability Awareness Initiative.” This thoughtful session invited delegates to explore ways to unlock the potential of individuals with disabilities, aligning with the event’s mission to champion equality and empowerment.

As the day progressed, key discussions resumed, including the second installment of the “Africa Talks Business and Investment Forum” and a dedicated “Women’s Forum” inspired by the historic Beijing Conference. The forum emphasized gender equality, women’s rights, and economic empowerment, affirming the essential role of women in Africa’s development. Meanwhile, the “Afro Tech and Innovation Forum” highlighted advancements in technology that promise to shape the continent’s future.

The evening offered a sensory feast with the “Cultural Night of African Music, Dance, and Cuisine.” Held in UNECA’s East Parking area, the event opened with a captivating performance by Swagga Don and featured artists such as Muma Gee from Nigeria, Ethiopia’s Addis Kana band, Maalem Chrif Kadiri from Morocco and Queen Stella Aicha from Burkina Faso. Guests enjoyed a banquet of traditional African dishes while dancing to live music, celebrating the continent’s cultural wealth and unity.

Day three, November 8, began with the “Africa Youth Forum,” a meeting of minds between young leaders and elders to craft a shared vision for the continent’s future. In parallel, presentations by Gebeya and the MasterCard Foundation showcased opportunities in education and entrepreneurship. The “Wellness and Beauty Expo Africa” highlighted advancements in self-care industries, reflecting Africa’s burgeoning wellness sector.

Later, discussions moved to the African Union’s Nelson Mandela Hall for the concluding sessions of the “Africa Talks Business and Investment Forum.” The day culminated in the “Gala Fashion & Awards Night” at the Sheraton Addis, where the runway came alive with stunning African designs. The night was a celebration of creativity, style, and achievement, leaving attendees inspired and energized.

On November 9, delegates ventured beyond the conference halls to explore Addis Ababa’s rich history and culture. Guided city tours offered a glimpse into Ethiopia’s heritage, from its ancient landmarks to bustling markets showcasing local craftsmanship. Shopping excursions added a personal touch, allowing attendees to bring home a piece of Ethiopia’s vibrant culture.

The event concluded on November 10, as delegates departed with fond memories and renewed resolve to build on the connections and ideas sparked during the gathering. The anticipation for Africa Celebrates 2025 was already palpable, a testament to the impact of this remarkable event.

Organized by Legendary Gold in collaboration with the African Union, UNECA, and a host of esteemed partners, Africa Celebrates 2024 demonstrated that the continent’s time is now. By merging art, culture, heritage, technology, and business, the event redefined Africa’s narrative and fostered a vision of progress and unity.

Africa Celebrates 2024 was more than a gathering—it was a movement, a celebration of the continent’s boundless potential and its people’s enduring spirit. Viva Africa!
