Basketmouth’s A ghetto love story hits cinemas

Comedian turned movie producer, Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has premiered his debut feature film, A Ghetto Love Story.
Written by Victoria Eze, also known as Mizvick and directed by Daniel Oriahi, the film which hit the cinemas yesterday, has sparked excitement among Nollywood lovers.
With a mix of comedy and raw emotion, the romantic drama captures the resilience and beauty of love amidst harsh circumstances. It revolves around the lives of childhood friends Obinna and Stella, exploring love, survival, and the complex realities of life in a bustling, low-income Nigerian neighbourhood.
The diverse cast, which helped to bring the vibrant film to life includes Basketmouth, Patience Ozokwor, Nobert Young, Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha, Wale Ojo, Dorathy Bachor, Akah Nnani, Beverly Osu, Chimezie Imo, Efe Irele, Ehizojie Okoeguale (Ehiz DadaBoy) among others.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the film, Basketmouth said, “This story was deeply personal to me. It’s based on real-life events, making this movie has been a dream I’ve nurtured for years.”
“I feel good doing the film, it’s been a while I have wanting to do the film but I wasn’t ready then. When I realised I was ready, the excitement kicked in. I have been excited for a very long time even before the production of the movie started because I knew what I was about to create.”
The writer, Mizvick, added, “This is a story Africa needs to see. It’s raw, relatable, and rooted in real-life experiences.”
“When I read the script, I was intrigued. It doesn’t end the way most Nollywood films do. It’s a reminder that life, especially in the ghetto, doesn’t always have a happy ending,” the lead actor, Akah Nnani remarked.
