Made Kuti’s I Won’t Run Away… an ode to self discovery

It’s no gain saying singer and multi-instrumentalist (bass, saxophone, piano, drums and trumpet), Ọmorinmade Kuti, known professionally as Made Kuti, proudly bears his family’s torch as he pushes the brand of infectious grooves and social consciousness that his grandfather, Olufela Oludotun Ransome-Kuti (Fela Anikulapo Kuti) pioneered, and his four-time Grammy nominee father, Olufemi Olufela Ransome Kuti (Femi Kuti) carried on and has continued to stir respectively.

With his signature blend of vibrant horns, layered instrumentation, and emotionally stirring lyrics, Made, in his latest single, I Won’t Run Away, explores themes of personal growth, responsibility, and self-awareness, delivers a poignant reflection on the importance of facing challenges head-on and embracing one’s true self.

Written and produced by himself, the new project was released under LegacyPlus Records. The thought-provoking track, which resonates with listeners seeking inspiration and motivation on their own journeys of self-discovery marks a bold and reflective moment in the Afrobeat torchbearer’s evolving sound; highlighting the power of self-awareness and the courage to face one’s flaws.

“I Won’t Run Away is an anthem for growth, accountability, and transformation.

It encourages listeners to confront their fears and weaknesses, embrace the lessons within their struggles, and commit to becoming better individuals, not just for themselves, but for their communities and the world at large.

“This song is about owning your story. It’s about looking in the mirror and choosing to face yourself honestly, not out of shame, but out of a desire to grow and be better,” said Made Kuti.

Prior to the release on Friday, May 2, Made teased the song on his social media platforms with an intimate snippet, captured during a candid conversation with his Afrobeat legend father, Femi Kuti. The moment highlighted the legacy of self-expression and truth-telling that runs through the Kuti lineage, while introducing a deeply personal chapter of Made’s own journey.”
