The Chief Executive Officer of the Musical Copyright Society Nigeria (MCSN) Limited, Mr. Mayo Ayilaran, has appealed to creators to take active interest in what Collective Management Organisations (CMOs) or Performance Rights Organisations (PROs) do on their behalf to ensure transparency.

He gave the advice at a roundtable in Lagos, when experts in the field met to discuss the role of Performance Rights Organisations (PROs) in the music business.

Reacting to a question from a member of the audience, the MCSN boss stated that the issue of transparency for which local societies have been maligned, over the years, lies with the creators themselves.

“The issue of transparency lies with the creators. How many members of a society have called to ask questions of their management, let alone visit the office to find out how their work is doing?” he queried.

Ayilaran further stated that creators need to be inquisitive, share information and expand their base. “You get the management on their toes if they know you are interested in what they are doing on your behalf, especially if you ask the hard questions,” he said.
