Turkey-based Nigerian activist and blogger Beatrice Opeyemi, popularly known as Teni Omoologo, has denied allegations that she received ₦1 million from Mohbad’s sister-in-law, Karimot Adebayo, to disrupt the campaign for justice for the late singer.

The controversy stems from claims that Teni was financially induced to suppress the movement seeking accountability for Mohbad’s death. However, in a recent statement, she refuted the accusation, insisting that Karimot only contributed ₦100,000 towards a giveaway on her Facebook platform.

Relationship with Karimot

Teni recounted her past interactions with Karimot, revealing that she had previously helped her despite the latter’s initial opposition to the justice campaign.

“Karimot was against those fighting for justice for Mohbad and often insulted his father and others involved in the struggle. Eventually, she joined us. During one of my Facebook giveaways, a woman known as ‘Mummy Light On’ donated ₦200,000 in two instalments. Karimot later reached out, asking how much I was distributing. Though I initially ignored her, ‘Mummy Light On’ urged me to respond. When I told her I was giving ₦5,000 each to followers, she offered to add ₦100,000 and requested my bank details. I declined, but ‘Mummy Light On’ shared them with her. Eventually, I received an anonymous credit alert of ₦100,000, which I later confirmed came from Karimot,” Teni explained.

Denial of ₦1 Million Allegation

Teni expressed frustration over what she described as a deliberate distortion of facts, stating that some people had exaggerated the situation by claiming she received ₦1 million from Karimot.

“It is disappointing that people are spreading falsehoods. The ₦100,000 Karimot sent was for the giveaway and not a personal gift. I never collected ₦1 million from her or anyone else to sabotage the justice movement,” she asserted.

Her Role as a Justice Advocate

Teni traced her activism to the Yoruba Nation movement, which she joined in 2020 after being invited by a group advocating for Yoruba self-determination.

“I had been vocal about leadership issues in Nigeria before joining the Yoruba Nation struggle. The EndSARS protest coincided with this movement, and I actively analysed the demonstrations on my Facebook platform. However, this attracted backlash from government supporters who insulted and threatened me,” she recalled.

She further alleged that some leaders within the Yoruba Nation agitation later shifted their support to President Bola Tinubu’s campaign in 2022, revealing that a secret meeting was held to rally behind him.

“I realised that the Yoruba Nation struggle was a scam. Many of its members, who were initially poor, became wealthy overnight. Their real agenda was political and financial gain,” she claimed.

Call for Justice for Mohbad

Commenting on the stalled quest for justice for Mohbad, Teni blamed the Lagos State Government for failing to act decisively after the singer’s body was exhumed for investigation.

“The government promised to ensure justice but has done little. If the authorities had been proactive, we wouldn’t be in this position. Additionally, Mohbad’s family’s conduct has been disappointing. His father, mother, and wife appear distracted by personal gains rather than focusing on securing justice for their son. Meanwhile, his body remains in the morgue,” she lamented.

She also warned Mohbad’s family to be cautious, alleging that those responsible for his death may still pose a threat to them.

“I see that those who harmed Mohbad are not done with his family. His younger brother, Adura, is already being exposed to similar influences. His parents must be vigilant and act responsibly,” she cautioned.

Teni reaffirmed her commitment to seeking justice for Mohbad, vowing not to be swayed by external pressures or financial inducements.
