Wizkid, Reekado Banks bury hatchet, dine together in Lagos

It’s a new dawn for music superstars Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun well known as Wizkid, and Ayoleyi Hanniel, who is better known by his stage name Reekado Banks, and their fans, as they can’t wait to see what the future holds for these two music icons.

In a heartwarming display of reconciliation, the duo in the company of rapper Shallipopi on Monday, February 24, were spotted dining together in Lagos. The duo had been embroiled in a highly publicised beef, but it appears they have put their differences aside.

The reconciliation was made public when Reekado Banks shared a photo of them enjoying a meal together on social media with the caption read, “Good vibes only!” The warmth shared by the Made in Lagos hitmaker and the Ozumba Mbadiwe crooner suggests they have made up after falling out in 2020.

Checks revealed that the rift between the two music stars stemmed from a misstep during the height of the #EndSARS protests in 2020. Wizkid had publicly rebuked Reekado Banks for promoting a song during a time when the nation was focused on addressing police brutality.

Wizkid felt that Reekado Banks had failed to read the room and show sensitivity to the ongoing social justice movement at the time. As a result, he shelved their planned collaboration. But Reekado Banks later released the song without his verse, further straining their relationship.

Sources close to the artistes revealed that the meeting was a deliberate attempt to mend their relationship and move forward. “They’ve both grown and realised that their friendship is more important than any disagreement,” a source said.

Following the triumphant release of his sixth studio album, Morayo – a heartfelt tribute to his late mother – Wizkid had been basking in the album’s phenomenal success. It shattered streaming records, catapulting the singer to new heights and solidifying his legacy in the music industry.
