When your house is without a parking lot, your car (s) are exposed to insecurity, and your state of mind to vulnerability. This is because your car is a valuable asset and keeping it safe within the property’s premises is an important responsibility.

When your house is without a parking lot, your car (s) are exposed to insecurity, and your state of mind to vulnerability. This is because your car is a valuable asset and keeping it safe within the property’s premises is an important responsibility.

A parking lot is the closest you can get to have your vehicle secure at home, hence the need to create a parking space (s) in your house.

This is why the Nigerian Urban and Regional Planning Act and respective states urban and regional planning and development laws as domesticated are quite explicit on space standards, which include parking space. Interestingly, the Lagos State requirement for residential development is two car park spaces for a dwelling unit. This implies that where you have two flats on a plot, parking space provision should be made for four car parks.

Why You Need A Parking Lot In Your Home
Aside from the security and peace of mind you have in your home by having your vehicle within your premises, a parking lot keeps your vehicle warm, the fluid and oil are kept in a stable condition which leads to an engine that runs better than one that is kept outside or exposed to a no-roof space. Also, with a warmer car comes faster AC and heat. On cold days, the heat will warm up faster than being out in the elements.

Building A Parking Lot
• Use a rectangular area. Make the parking area’s long sides parallel. Use parking stalls along the perimeter.
• Depending on available space, you may go for a simple roof design that protects your car from direct sunshine and other climate conditions.
• Cast-in-place or post-tension concrete is poured at the job site. This requires fewer joint lines than precast concrete, making it less subject to cracking or damage. Cast-in-place concrete also lets more light into the parking garage because beams can be spread further apart.
