Singer and songwriter, Emma Chukwugoziam Obi well known by her stage name Emma Nyra has made a comeback to the music industry with new material, and it is the remix of her song, For my matter, which was released in December 2014.

The remix features dancehall act, Patoranking, and the video has been shot. Emma Nyra’s absence from making music has brought criticism and comments from many people, prompting her to recently release a reply to her critics.

“Ladies, this message is for you. I think it’s sad that every single day, I receive negative and constructive criticism from women who have never constructed anything. Every single thing I do is criticised because I’m in the public eye; fair enough that’s what I signed up for in order to be a female artiste.

“You may also want to understand why I’m successful and why I will always be successful. It is because of women! The women who have dedicated their time and talent to work with me, collab with me, and advised me; the women that look after their fellow woman by building her up, instead of tearing her down. This is why men are successful because they help each other grow.

“The most important woman in my life (my mom) is a very successful business woman and my whole life I watched her take criticism from women who tried to bring her down. She handled it all with a smile and killed them with success. I wrote this to challenge women.

This year as a woman, challenge yourself to support other women around you. Mentor younger girls and make them stronger. Lift each other up, define womanhood. 2016 #YearofTheWoman.”

Born July 18, 1988 in California and raised in Texas. Her father is a pharmacist and her mother has had a home health practice. Emma Nyra at six years old already liked to sing and wanted to become a singer.

A graduate of Health Administration from Texas Southern University Houston, Nyra in 2010 met her manager, Ubi Franklin, during one of her Christmas visits to Nigeria. She relocated after her manager helped convince her parents to allow her move to Nigeria in 2012. She, however, parted ways with Ubi Franklin’s Made Men Music Group last in 2015, after an acrimonious end, and stayed away from releasing music until recently.

The singer became popular after the song Your Waist. She is a label mate of the Akwa-Ibom born singer and one time MTN Project Fame winner, Iyanya. In 2013, she performed on stages in the UK, US and Canada during Iyanya’s tour to promote his second album.

She also used to be a gymnast and a volleyball player. She worked on radio presenting for Flytime Entertainment and also worked with Nollywood stars including Ini Edo and Desmond Elliot.
