KTRC tasks parents on children’s education, gives awards

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Kids and Teens Resource Centre (KTRC) and a farmer, Mr. Godwin Onoja, have advised parents to be more committed to the education of their children. 

Executive Director, KTRC, Mr. Martin-Mary Falana, said this at the weekend during the prize giving cerenony to mark the International Literacy Day with the pupils of Ilado Community Primary School, Ilado, Akure North LGA of Ondo State. 

Falana noted that the education of a child is not a privilege, but a right that must not be denied the young ones, saying they are the leaders of today and the coming tomorrow.

The NGO collaborated with the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) members to organise a two-week extra-mural classes and skill acquisition programmes, where the pupils learnt cake, snacks and bead-making as well as other vocations. 

The event was peaked with other activities like fashion parade, award for communal participation, which Mrs Roseline Okon won a prize of N10, 000, while Miss Olorunfemi Oluwaseun, Thomas Grace and Wisdom Jeremiah got first, second and third prizes respectively as best performing students. 

The Olu of Ilado, Oba Kayode J. Ajomale, who commended the organisers, disclosed the NGO built a six-classroom, twin blocks for the only primary school in the community, about ten years ago.
