Making an Impact Through Hackathons

One of the most remarkable initiatives by Inventors Community is its Hackathon for African Tech Enthusiast which has been existing for the past five (5) years. This year’s hackathon, currently ongoing, is more than just a tech competition. It’s a platform where young people can showcase their skills, tackle real-world challenges, and create solutions that can positively impact society.

This hackathon has attracted participants from across Africa, each bringing unique perspectives and ideas to the table. The event is structured to foster learning and collaboration, with seasoned professionals mentoring participants throughout the process.

Breaking Barriers With Tech Classes

Recognizing that many people in Africa are eager to enter the tech industry but lack the resources or knowledge to begin, Inventors Community has introduced free tech classes. These classes are designed for beginners, covering areas like web development, app development, data science, data analysis, product design, game development, cyber security, graphic design, and technical writing.

The classes are open to everyone, regardless of their background, and have already transformed the lives of many like Omoniyi Joshua. “I started with zero knowledge in data analysis, but Inventors has helped me grow from a beginner to a skilled data analyst. Thanks to the mentorship and support from the community, Now, I confidently teach new students and guide them on their journey in data analysis”  by Omoniyi Joshua.

The program doesn’t just teach technical skills; it also helps participants understand the tech ecosystem and discover career opportunities they may not have known existed. By providing mentorship and practical training, Inventors Community is breaking down the barriers that keep many Africans from accessing opportunities in tech. “The community has helped me see what heights are possible, currently see myself working hard and making use of the available mentorship in Inventors to get to the top!” by Omoniyi Daniel Opemipo.

Inventors Community embraces this change by regularly hosting virtual events that bring members together, regardless of their location. These events cater to a diverse audience, covering both technical and non-technical topics to ensure inclusivity and relevance.

From The intersection of UX and business strategy and choosing the right data engineering tool to discussions on mastering effective communication, and career growth, the virtual events are designed to inspire, educate, and connect. “We believe learning and growth should have no boundaries, Whether you’re a tech newbie or an industry professional, there’s always something to gain from our sessions.” shared Akinrotimi Dominion.

One notable recent event was the “Best practices for code review and Pair Programming”, where leading tech experts shared their experiences, challenges, and lessons learned in the industry. Attendees left the event with valuable insights and actionable advice to apply in their own tech journeys.

Empowering a Generation Through Mentorship

Inventors Community doesn’t just stop at teaching and connecting people; it goes a step further by providing mentorship opportunities. Experienced professionals in the community volunteer their time to guide young talents, helping them navigate the challenges of building a tech career.

Breaking New Ground at Bells University

Inventors Community is not just impacting individuals; it’s expanding its reach to institutions. Recently, the community launched a new chapter at Bells University of Technology, marking another milestone in its journey of empowerment and growth.

This expansion is particularly significant as it brings the community’s mission directly to the doorstep of students eager to explore technology and innovation. The Bells University chapter serves as a hub for young innovators, offering them the resources, mentorship, and opportunities they need to thrive.

“We’re excited to partner with Bells University to nurture tech talent at the grassroots level,” said by Anthony Adedayo, the Community Lead. “By creating a presence on campus, we can empower students to build their skills and connect with a larger network of like-minded individuals.”

The chapter has already started hosting activities, including tech meetups and beginner classes, all aimed at helping students turn their ideas into tangible solutions.
