Adesokan faces Ukeh in women’s singles final today

AFRICA’s top seed, Dorcas Adesokan, and Deborah Ukeh will do battle in the women’s singles final of the Rivers Governor’s National Badminton Championship holding today at the Alfred Diette-Spiff Civic Centre, Port Harcourt.

AFRICA’s top seed, Dorcas Adesokan, and Deborah Ukeh will do battle in the women’s singles final of the Rivers Governor’s National Badminton Championship holding today at the Alfred Diette-Spiff Civic Centre, Port Harcourt.

Adesokan showed why she is the continent’s number one player after she dismissed Tosin Atolagbe in 21-7, 21-3, while Ukeh defeated Zainab Alaba 19-21, 21-17, 21-18 for today’s final. The pair of former Africa’s top seed, Ola Fagbemi and Jinka Efremu triumphed over Anu Opeyori and Godwin Olofua in the men’s doubles category to also book a place in the final.

Aside the men and women’s singles finals, other finals that would be decided today include the doubles and mixed doubles.Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, who has thrown his weight behind the championship, is expected to grace today’s occasion anticipated to be full of fanfare. President of the BFN, Frank Orbih will also lead his team to the final day of the championship.The men’s singles semifinals event was being decided as at press time.
