The Nigeria U-20 women’s volleyball team were denied the bronze medal at the Africa Nations Championship, which ended in Kenya at the weekend with Cameroon winning the third place match 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-16).

The third place match was Nigeria’s second loss to Cameroon in the cadet volleyball championship. Nigeria previously lost to Cameroon in the first match of Pool A 1-3 (25-17, 20-25, 15-25, 20-25).

However, the fourth-place finish in Kenya is Nigeria’s best performance at the continental championship, according to the Nigeria Volleyball Federation.

Egypt again was crowned the Women U-20 African Champions following their 3-0 defeat of Rwanda (25-18, 25-10, 25-13) in the final match at Moi International Sports Complex.

Egypt and Rwanda will represent Africa at the 2019 Women’s World Championship to be hosted in Mexico.

This is the eighth time in row that Egypt will win the U-20 women championship out of nine editions.

The North Africans have held the title since 2004.

Host nation Kenya finished in fifth position by beating RD Congo 3-1 (23-23, 27-25, 25-17, 25-18), while Mauritius finished in the seventh position by beating Tanzania 3-0 (36-16, 25-17, 25-22).
