Anibeze is AFN’s new CEO as Okowa re-elected president

Veteran journalist, Dr Nneka Ikem Anibeze, was yesterday named the Chief Operating Officer (CEO) of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) by the federation’s president, Tonobok Okowa, who was re-elected for another four-year term by the congress.

The AFN election was held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, with Okowa the sole candidate for president of the federation.

Nneka, a former spokesperson to ex-Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, is among three persons appointed into the board by Okowa after his re-election.

The others are Dr. Samuel Kolawole Oredipe, the current Vice-Chairman, the Bayelsa State Athletics Association, who will serve as the auditor of the federation; Bamidele Edokpaye (legal adviser) and Babajide Odedeji (safeguarding officer).

Okowa announced the appointments shortly after taking the oath of office for his second term in office.

Dr. Oredipe is the founder of Samkay Athletics Club, and candidate for the South-South Zonal Rep in the last election in Benin City, Edo State.

Like Dr Anibeze, Dr. Oredipe, a former middle-distance athlete, is the assistant director, of news at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria. He is currently Director-General of new Media to the Bayelsa State Governor.
