After hosting two consecutives editions of the National Youth Games in 2023 and 2024, the city of Asaba, Delta State, is wearing a new look ahead the 2025 event.
The Games will light up Asaba from August 26 to September 6, 2025, with young athletes from across Nigeria converging for a week of thrilling competition.
The Joint Technical Meeting, where some important issues concerning the Games will be taken, started on Friday in Asaba and will end on August 10.
Chairman of Delta State Sports Commission, Onoriode Oborevwori, told The Guardian, that preparations are in full gear to make this year’s Games a memorable one for both athletes, officials and visitors.
According to him, organisation of this year’s edition will be top-notch, adding that the Asaba 2025 NYG is going to be a display of sportsmanship and national unity.
This year’s event is themed, ‘We Are the Future,’ and according to Oborevwori, the Games will be a celebration of youthful talent, unity, and the unyielding Nigerian spirit.
Also speaking ahead of the Games, immediate past Director General of Delta Sports Commission, Festus Ohwojero, revealed on Friday that the opening ceremony would hold on August 28, while competitions will run till September 6 at multiple venues across Asaba.
Since the commencement of the National Youth Games in 2015, Team Delta has maintained its top position on the medals table.
