Plateau equals 2022 gold medals haul, eye more victories

Plateau State contingent at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival in Ogun State are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to improve on their performance at the 2022 edition.
 
Apart from Team Plateau equalling the four gold medals that it got at the Asaba 2022 NSF last weekend, at the close of events on Day 5 of the Gateway Games, the state had 20 medals with most of them coming from long-distance races.
  
In the 5000m athletics event, Patience Dalyop captured gold, while Nanlop Danladi sealed the day’s athletics performance for Plateau State with a bronze in the 10km walk race.
 
In golf, Tina Micah got a consolation bronze medal after squaring up in the Match Play singles, to add to the medals table.
 
Also, Peace Musa fought to secure bronze in the 45kg class in powerlifting.
 
In Volleyball, it was a clash of the titans between Plateau and Bayelsa, as the two heavyweights kept spectators on the edge of their seats in a tense encounter.
  
Plateau came from behind twice to level scores after the fourth set before unleashing the final stroke to win the tie. Team Plateau will today know their next opponents in the quarterfinals.
  
The state is also making some progress in chess, scrabble, and dart.
 
In some other individual events, including boxing, badminton, and squash, the picture is not looking good for Team Plateau. Their male basketball team was eliminated by Rivers State in the quarterfinals 63 – 59 even after leading up to the third quarter.
