ChessFemi Balogun on Saturday defeated international grandmaster, Ambesh Tripani, and former national champion, Bayo Opadeyi, to win the Open category of the August edition of the Chess Heights tournament held at the Sports Centre of the University of Lagos.

The competition, which featured 24 players in the Open category and six players in the Under-14 cadre, saw Balogun outwitting Tripani, who in January won the Gibraltar International Tournament in the United Kingdom.

Other players at the event were Abimbola Osunfuyi, Rotimi Lapite and Fide Master, Olamide Ajibowo. Olamide Aibowo and Rotimi Lapite took the second and third positions.

At the end of the competition, the players thanked the sponsors, Professor Abisogun Leigh and Lagos Island Local Government. The next edition is September 5.
