To ensure that Nigeria continually has quality goalkeepers for all its national teams, the Barca Academy Lagos has started screening young talented shot stoppers for inclusion into the elite football school.

The academy, promoted by Blaugrana Sports International, has been at the forefront of youth football development in the country with emphasis on building educated and disciplined youngsters into international stars.

The special trials, according to the academy, will give opportunities to young boys and girls interested in goalkeeping to enjoy specialized training in the department that has recently been problematic to the country’s national teams.

Speaking after watching a training session at the academy’s facilities at Children International School, (CIS) Lekki, Lagos, Blaugrana Sports Group’s Communication, Development and Growth Specialist, Ms. Abibatu Abudu Ajayi said, “Although we are elitist in nature, primarily our bond is inspired by adding sustainable value to the society. We help discover, develop, grow and support our children to reach their best possible heights in education and football.. We place high premium on children who are exceptionally brilliant, skillfully talented but may not be capable of bearing the financial weight of attending Barca Academy.

“Although we started the 2020/2021 season late due to the global pandemic, all of the Academy’s programmes will be implemented as planned. The difference is in the time schedule, and we assure our stakeholders, especially parents that we are better by the day.’’

She said the Barca Academy Group is delighted in what the Lagos National Stadium has become, adding, however, that the Sunday Dare-led Sports Ministry put in place a management mechanism that would guarantee changes would be permanent.

“We heard the facilities would be opened soon for activities to resume there.  On that note we advise it should be well regulated and supervised in the interest of the young children who go there to take advantage of various sporting competitions meant to grow their talents and better their life, ‘she advised.

While advising talented children interested in joining the academy to go to the Teslim Balgun Stadium for registration, Ms, Abudu disclosed that Barca Academy cadets and elite students would return to the legacy pitch in the National Stadium to commence their activities as soon it is completely open for usage.
