Benin, Ikeja, IBB set for 2025 Golf Fore Peace Festival

The Benin Golf Club, Ikeja Golf Club and the IBB Golf and Country Club, Abuja will host this year’s Golf Fore Peace Festival, which begins on June 7, the organisers have said.

The competition will tee off on June 7 at the Benin Golf Club, with the Lagos leg scheduled to hold at Ikeja Golf Club, on June 28, while the Abuja leg will hold at the IBB Golf Club, on November 14 and 15.

According to the organisers, each tournament will feature peace roundtables and cocktail evenings (the night before), the unveiling of Peace Ambassadors by the Chief of Defence Staff, General C.G. Musa, ceremonial tee-offs, cultural showcases from all six-geo-political zones, cultural music, poetry, and food festival.

The golf tourney is aimed at bringing unity to the country.

Speaking with The Guardian, Initiator & Lead Coordinator of the golf tournament, Kemi Olowoyo-Otegbade, said, “The Chief of Defence Staff, who heads the nation’s security forces supports the use of both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to address security challenges.

“Nigeria needs unity, dialogue, and reconciliation. As a nation rich in culture and diversity—spanning six geopolitical zones, we recognise that peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the active pursuit of harmony.”

Outstanding Nigerians—individuals who exemplify innovation, unity, and advocacy for peace—will be recognised as peace ambassadors during the tourney.

Among those to be unveiled in Lagos include Chairman Greenwich Merchant Bank, Kayode Falowo; MD, Ecobank, Bolaji Lawal; Chairman of Air Peace, Dr. Allen Onyema; Chairman, Punch Newspapers, Mrs. Angela Emuwa; Chairman, Odu’a Investment Company, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru and Chairman, Keystone Bank, Lady Ada Chukwulobe.

The maiden edition was held at the IBB International Golf & Country Club, Abuja, on November 25, 2023. The second edition followed at the TYB Golf Course, also in Abuja, in 2024.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General C.G. Musa, serves as the Lead Peace Advocate, consistently championing the use of golf as a platform for national dialogue, unity, and peace. He traditionally leads the ceremonial tee-off and delivers keynote messages during the dinner and prize presentation ceremonies.
