Chelsea signs Nigerian defender, Osagie, after trial

Chelsea Football Club has confirmed the acquisition of Nigerian central defender Justin Osagie, 20, following a trial period at Stamford Bridge. The transfer was completed on undisclosed terms, after Osagie’s contract with Peterborough United came to an end.

During his trial, Osagie reportedly impressed Chelsea’s academy coaches, leading to a permanent arrangement. He has since been integrated into the Blues’ development squad and was listed as an unused substitute in the recent EFL
Trophy match against Northampton Town.

Osagie’s career has included stints at Southend United, West Ham United, and Celtic, before moving to Peterborough United in 2024 after another trial spell. Interest in the defender has reportedly come from several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Brighton & Hove Albion.

He remains eligible to represent both Nigeria and the Republic of Ireland at the international level.
