Cycling prodigy, Godwin, dreams big after winning bronze medal
Cycling prodigy, Osaretin Godwin of Team Edo, who is competing with elite athletes at the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State, is dreaming of bigger things to come her way.
Edo State female coach, Angela Okoro, decided to throw the 15-year-old Godwin into the fray and she surprisingly beat notable cyclists to emerge third in the women’s 200m sprint event behind Ese Ukpeseraye of Delta State and Joke Durogbade of Oyo State.
Shortly after her decoration with her bronze medal, Godwin said she was elated to get a National Sports Festival medal.
“I want to thank God for this medal (bronze) in this festival and I am very happy. It is my prayer to keep doing well until I win more laurels in cycling,” she said.
Executive Director of Edo State Sports Commission, Dr. Emmanuel Igbinosa, hugged little Miss Godwin for her feat and promised that she would be monitored and groomed to become a national champion.
Meanwhile, in the 80km road race for women decided yesterday, Team Delta’s Ese Ukpeseraye won the gold, while Tawakalt Yekeen and Joke Durogbade, both of Oyo State picked the silver and bronze medals respectively.
