D-defenders, Delta Force, COAS Shooters, Edo Dynamos, Safety Babes, and Seasiders Babes all won their games yesterday at the Prudent Energy Handball League, which entered day two at the Package B of the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

In the male category, D-Defenders defeated Kada Stars 26-20 to record their first victory of the championship, while Delta Force humbled Plateau Vipers 21-20 in a closely fought encounter. However, Niger United suffered a 28-30 narrow defeat to COAS Shooters in the army side’s second win of the league.

In the women class, defending champions, Safety Babes returned to winning ways by beating one of the superpowers of the game, Imo Grasshoppers 21-20 to revive their hope of retaining their title after the opening day defeat by Edo Dynamos.

The Dynamos recorded their second win by beating Defender Babes 25-22, just as Seasider Babes made it two wins in two by beating Benue Queens 34-31.

Speaking on his team’s return to victory, Safety Babes’ coach, Bala Mohammed, said his team was not ready to drop its crown easily after losing to Dynamos in their first game.

He added that his team’s victory over Imo Grasshoppers means that they are back in contention for the title.

“We know that we are the defending champions and I am not surprised at the way other teams came at us. I know teams in this championship are out here to wrestle the title from us and we are also prepared for the challenges.

“The games have also just started and players still have abundant energy. It is when fatigue starts setting in that you will know the teams with the requisite experience to go all the way. The games are still many and I am hopeful my team will do well,” he said.

He added: “I am happy with my team’s win over Imo Grasshoppers and I must commend the players for their effort so far. Despite our loss to the Edo Dynamos, they still showed class. Our ambition really is to retain our title,” Mohammed stated.
