Delta Queens face Ghanaian test at club hockey tourney

The sports rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana will again play out today in the Egyptian city of Ismailia where one of the country’s flagbearers at the 2025,African Cup for Club Hockey Championships, Delta Queens of Asaba, will clash with Ghana’s Revenue Authority.

Delta Queens, who arrived in Ismailia on January 28, secured a 5-0 (walk over) against Kampala Girls of Uganda, who could not arrive on time due to flight related Issues.
In their second group match played on February 1, Delta Queens lost 0-2 to fellow Nigerians, Kada Queens.The result against Kada Queens, notwithstanding, Delta Queens recovered for their match Day 3 tie against one of the local favourite teams, El Sharkia of Egypt, which the Nigerians won 2-0 to hit six points from three matches.
Now in second position in their group, Delta Queens have vowed to approach today’s match against Ghana Revenue Authority with the seriousness it deserves.
Speaking with The Guardian from the team’s camp in Egypt, yesterday, Chairman of Delta Sports Commission, Onoriode Oborevwori, said the players are motivated for the game against Ghana.
“The fact that we are facing Ghana has added more seriousness to their training,” Oborevwori said, adding, “I am confident we will win.” Also speaking, the Director-General of the Sports Commission, Festus Ohwojero, said that aspiration of Delta Queens hockey team is to win the ACCC trophy in Egypt.
“The morale and financial support given to the team by our Governor, Sherrif Oborevwori, is enough for us to win this tournament. I am optmistic we will do so.” Over 20 other African countries are in Egypt for the championships.
