Delta’s victory in line with state’s new brand identity, says Ukah
Delta’s victory at the recent Second National Youth Games in Ilorin, Kwara State is in line with the state’s new brand identity, which has sports as one of it’s major components, Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, has said.
Accompanied by his Basic and Secondary Education counterpart, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, when they visited the Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa, in his office in Asaba, Ukah posited that the state is well known for its pole position in all spheres of national and international sports, adding that the victory is a clear manifestation of that fact.
He congratulated Okowa and his management team for keeping the state’s flag flying high through the victory. The Information Commissioner revealed that arrangements had been concluded for 2000 hockey sticks to be presented to some selected secondary schools in the state to further boost the exploits of the state in sports.
In his remarks, the state’s Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, said the timing of the distribution of the hockey sticks to selected secondary schools in the state is very apt and in line with the determination of his ministry to give school sports more attention.
He commended Ukah for the initiative, adding that since the game of hockey is no longer what it used to be in the state, everything possible would be done to revive it and ensure that it took its place of pride in sports.
Also speaking at the event, Delta State Sports Commission Chairman, Chief Tonobok Okowa, thanked the two commissioners for the visit, stressing that sports in the state was tilting towards the right direction.
He stated that this is the right time to revive school sports, as it is the surest way of boosting grassroots sports development.
