One of the leading sports development organisations in Nigeria, Divtech Sports International, has announced plans to expand its youth tournament portfolio to include football, snooker and table tennis competitions.

The move aims to engage more young talents across Lagos State and provide a platform for youth development through sports. Speaking in Lagos, Divtech Sports Director, Oladapo Olalekan disclosed that the 2025 edition of their annual football tournament will kick off on January 25 at Oki Primary School.
“Many of our youths are being destabilized, and as a sportsman, I decided to create this platform to give them something to follow. Something they love doing and something they believe in. We are not just organising a tournament but we are building a platform for youth development through sports.
“The tournament has already made a significant impact, with 18 promising players identified last year receiving guidance on international football opportunities. The 2025 edition of the tournament is scheduled to run until March 22, and organisers are confident that it will be a resounding success,” he stated.
Olalekan stated that funding was the organisation’s biggest challenge since its inception, but noted that despite the challenge, the tournament has grown significantly, featuring 16 teams competing in a conference format across four groups.

According to him, this year’s edition will see an increased prize money of N150,000 for the winners and N80,000 for runners-up.
“The tournament will also include snooker and table tennis competitions, with plans to add more sports in subsequent years,” he said. Chairman of participating club, Alim City, Charles Adetokunbo, emphasised the importance of player discipline, stating that many players lack the discipline required to reach their full potential.
On his part, the representative of officiating and security team, Chukwuemeka Ofor, promised top-notch officiating standards, including the use of four officials in every match.
“We promise to use four officials in every match in this tournament, including assistant referees. While we recognise the importance of having VAR technology, we are still growing and will consider such additions in subsequent competitions with sponsorship,” Ofor said.
