Think Yorùbá First (TYF) has described the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as one that has undertaken significant reforms and development initiatives since May 2023, while declaring its support for his re-election in 2027.

The group said its endorsement followed an assessment of the policies, reforms, infrastructure projects and institutional changes introduced by the administration across various sectors of the economy.

In a statement, TYF acknowledged that Nigerians continued to face challenges, particularly the rising cost of living and insecurity, but said the government had demonstrated sufficient commitment, courage and capacity to deserve another term to consolidate its reforms.

The group highlighted the administration’s economic and fiscal reforms, including changes to the foreign exchange regime, revenue mobilisation, tax reforms and the discontinuation of Ways and Means financing.

It also cited the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), saying the scheme had expanded access to tertiary education financing, while noting interventions in healthcare, including the revitalisation of primary healthcare centres and investments in specialised medical facilities.

On infrastructure, TYF pointed to major projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano corridor, Enugu-Onitsha and Oyo-Ogbomoso roads.

It also commended ongoing rail and port development, as well as interventions in the energy sector aimed at increasing domestic refining capacity and attracting investment in the oil and gas industry.

The group identified the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative as another important intervention, saying it was expanding alternative-fuel options and helping to reduce dependence on petrol-powered transportation.

TYF further cited government initiatives in agriculture and food security, youth development, technology, housing, support for micro, small and medium enterprises, the digital economy, creative industries and solid minerals as evidence of what it described as a broad reform agenda.

The group also commended the signing of the ₦70,000 national minimum wage, describing it as a significant development in Nigeria’s wage framework.

On security, TYF acknowledged the administration’s increased investment in military operations, intelligence gathering, police reform and inter-agency coordination, while noting that insecurity remained a major challenge.

It particularly welcomed President Tinubu’s support for the establishment of state police, describing the move as a major step towards addressing the country’s security challenges through a decentralised policing system.

The group noted that the administration had transmitted a constitutional amendment proposal on state police to the National Assembly in July 2026, saying the initiative had moved the issue from decades of political discussion towards a legislative and constitutional process.

“For us as Yorùbá people, this is particularly significant. Community policing, local intelligence and the ability of communities to participate meaningfully in protecting their own people are essential to sustainable security,” TYF said.

The group also acknowledged what it described as the administration’s attention to the development of the South-West, citing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, transportation and economic corridors, road rehabilitation and other infrastructure projects across the region.

It, however, stressed that federal projects should benefit all Nigerians regardless of ethnic background.

“We recognise that federal projects belong to the Nigerian people and should never be presented as gifts to one ethnic group,” the group said.

TYF said it appreciated an administration whose President understood the strategic importance of Lagos, the South-West and Yorùbáland to Nigeria’s economy, culture and future.

The group also noted President Tinubu’s engagements with traditional rulers and cultural institutions, including his meeting with the Oyo State Council of Obas, where he reaffirmed his commitment to security and the development of state police.

Despite its endorsement, TYF said its support for the administration would not prevent it from demanding accountability and good governance.

“Supporting President Tinubu does not mean abandoning our responsibility to scrutinise government. Our support is neither blind nor unconditional,” it said.

The group said it would continue to demand constitutionalism, economic prosperity, improved security and the protection of Yorùbá interests within a united and prosperous Nigeria.
