The focus in Melbourne Park was the encounter between sixth-seeded Tomas Berdych and the highly talented Australian, Nick Kyrgios. Berdych won the first set, with just one break of serve. Games went routinely with serves until Berdych broke his opponent’s serve in the seventh game.

The Aussie fought back in the eighth game in which the Czech opened with a double fault. Leading 40-30, Kyrgios battled to deuce and cancelled an advantage point. However, the Czech held on to win the game.

Kyrgios won the next game on his serve despite his protesting to the umpire that music was playing while play was in progress. He continued his vocal protest during the changeover while the Czech maintained his cool and served out the set at 6-4.
