Eagles, Corsica, Togo friendlies on despite France’s state of emergency

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has affirmed that today’s today’s international friendly between the Super Eagles and Corsica in France, as well as the game against Togo on June 1, will go ahead despite the state of emergency declared by the French government.

French President, Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday requested that parliament extend the state of emergency until November 1. The president, who revealed this after meeting with the Defense and National Security Council, also called for the introduction of legislation to boost security in the face of the terrorist threats in the country.

Reacting to the development yesterday, Super Eagles’ Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye told The Guardian from France that the political situation in France would not in any way affect the friendlies lined up for the Eagles in the European country.

He disclosed that the Eagles, who had their last training session for the Corsica friendly yesterday night, are in buoyant mood for the game. He revealed that Coach Gernot Rohr and the other officials of the team have concluded their strategies for the friendly, adding that the players have been given al guidelines that would to follow while before and after the matches.

“The NFF investigated all the security issues in France before allowing the Eagles to play the international friendlies here. Here in Corsica, everywhere is peaceful. The other game against Togo would hold in Paris and we have been assured that the state of emergency would not affect the games,” he said.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles and AS Monaco wingback, Elderson Echiejile has said assured that Nigeria will not underrate the Corsica when both sides lock horns this evening at the Stade Francois Coty, Ajaccio.
