Air Assault Club of Port Harcourt’s William Egbedi, who recently won the Aba Heineken Amateur Open Championship, is not done with annexing the trophies at the premier South Eastern Golf Club.

The winner of the 2012 and 2013 editions of the championship played 7-under par to emerge the overall champion of the 15th edition of the competition held at the golf section of the Aba Sports Club.

He beat among others, the defending champion of the championship, Emmanuel Onumajuru of Aba Golf Club to take the trophy, and now he says his next target is the

Governor’s Cup, which will tee off on December 5 at the same club.Speaking on his success in Aba, especially his defeat of the club’s
Onumajuru, Egbedi said, “it is not easy to beat a good player in his own course, so I feel happy winning here. I trained hard for this tournament, because I know that it won’t be easy to beat him.”

He promised to go back to Port Harcourt to fine tune his game, saying that the Aba course has a peculiar thrill that brings out the best in him.

Also speaking at the event, Aba Sports Club President, Geoffrey Uzoagbara, said the club is proud of the standard of the green-18-holes Aba Golf Course, which attract the best golfers from across the country to its competitions. He promised that his administration would ensure that the golf section receives the needed support to maintain the course all year round.

Meanwhile, participants in the Governor’s Cup are expected to arrive in Aba tomorrow for registration and other formalities, while the Pro-Am competition will tee off on December 5.

Among the dignitaries expected at the tournament are the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, and some state executive committee members.
