Egypt unleashes 40, 000 fans on Eagles, as Cuper aims to rout Nigeria
Egypt Coach, Hector Cuper, says nothing will stop the Pharaohs from recording a comprehensive victory over Nigeria when they meet in an African Nations Cup qualifier today.
Cuper’s optimism stems from the massive support he has received from his employers, the Egypt Football Association, which has approved 40,000 fans to bay and charge the Pharaohs to victory in Alexandria.
The Egyptians held Nigeria to a 1-1 draw in Kaduna and need only a draw to consolidate their march towards Gabon 2017 following the withdrawal of Chad from the Group D race.
“We will have an attacking approach and we aim to create more goal scoring opportunities,” Cúper said in a televised interview on Sunday.
“We have one target against Nigeria, which is achieving victory. All the players are ready and the atmosphere will be different than the first match,” Cúper said in reference to the security officials’ decision to allow 40,000 supporters into Borg El-Arab Stadium.
Cúper is not concerned with Chad’s withdrawal from the African qualifiers, saying Egypt knows they would be home and dry with a victory today.
After the nullification of Chad’s results, Egypt remain top of group G on four points, two points clear of second-placed Nigeria.
“We don’t care whether Chad have withdrawn. We focus only on achieving victory against Nigeria, this is the most important thing,” the former Valencia manager added.
The Argentine added that playing in front of a home crowd could be an added advantage with the officials allowing up to 40 000 supporters to attend the match at Borg El-Arab Stadium.
“The presence of the fans will give us an edge. It will be different in Alexandria [than in Kaduna],” the coach added.
“We are only focusing on Nigeria’s game. That is more important for us.”
